CELEBRATE BUENA VISTA DAY
On Saturday, April 17, 2010, the second annual Celebrate Buena Vista Day (formerly
Community Pride Day) took place in Buena Vista. In these tight economic times, there is
never enough money to take care of all the little things that need to be done in a small
town, so we work with city departments, historic properties, and others to identify areas
that need work, as well as challenge individual residents and businesses to clean up
their own spaces, particularly their yards and business properties. We have encouraged
removal of trash and other debris that littered several areas in our neighborhoods. This
year, we built park benches to replace those vandalized in the fall along the riverwalk
and painted curbing and crosswalks downtown to freshen things up.

The day was a full fun one, celebrating all that is great about Buena Vista - its natural
beauty, its resolve, and its people. But it wasn't be just a day for working -- In addition to
providing volunteer opportunities for doing something for our community, it included a
downtown flea market -
Bargain Bustin' in BV; a Chicken Barbeque Dinner, prepared
by the Volunteer Fire Department; and a downtown Battle of the Bands sponsored by the
Senior Class at Southern Virginia University.
